R rated comic book movies have been successful thanks to 20th Century Fox releasing Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and Logan recently. That being said, Sony Pictures has been too scared to make Venom R rated.

While Venom still eats several people in the movie, the camera cuts away so we don't see all of the blood and gore.

Well fans might be disappointed to know that a sequel to Venom might also be PG-13 too and not rated R.

The possibility of Venom 2 being PG-13 as well was teased by Venom's producer Avi Arad via an interview with Collider. You can read his comments on the matter posted below. Bear in mind, spoilers for Venom are talked about.

When you hear Carnage, the only thing you can think of is R. But, if you know his story, if you really know the comic, there’s no R here. He’s a tortured soul. It’s not about what he does, because we never have to show the knife going from here to there, and the blood is pouring. What you have to show is, what is the motivation? Was he born like that, or [is he] someone we should feel for, because if you succeeding in making a villain someone you can feel for, jackpot.

It will be disappointing to see Venom 2 rated PG-13 because the character of Carnage is pretty violent in the comic books. A PG-13 rated movie with Carnage might not be true to the original comic books.

That said, Venom has been getting a lot of money at the Box Office this weekend.

The movie has been popular among people under the age of 25 so maybe Sony Pictures wants to attract the same younger demographic for the sequel.
