What to do in Socotra, Yemen

Socotra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique and diverse plant and animal species that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The island is located off the coast of Yemen and is often described as the Galapagos Islands of the Indian Ocean. There are several tourist attractions that one can visit while in Socotra.

The first destination that should be on every tourist's list is the Dragon Blood Trees. These trees grow only on the Socotra Island and their red sap is said to resemble dragon's blood. It is believed locally that the trees possess magical and medicinal powers. The trees are beautiful and their shape is reminiscent of umbrellas.

Another popular attraction in Socotra is the Diksam Plateau. The plateau boasts beautiful pastoral landscapes, where one can see several types of plants and trees. The plateau is a habitat for the island's endemic bird species, such as the Socotra Warbler and Socotra Starling. Bird watchers will certainly enjoy exploring the plateau.

The Homhil Protected Area is another destination that should be on every tourist's list. Homhil is a mountainous area with a beautiful view of the northeast coast.
