What to do in Sariska Reserve and National Park, India
Sariska Reserve and National Park located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, is one of the most iconic wildlife reserves in India. Covering an area of over 800 square kilometers, the national park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, adventure seekers and nature lovers. The Aravalli range surrounds the park which is home to a variety of wildlife including tigers, leopards, hyenas, Sambhar deer, chinkara and more.
Here are some of the top tourist attractions in Sariska Reserve and National Park:
1. Safari Rides: The best way to explore the park is through safari rides. There are two safari rides available- Jeep safaris and Canter Safaris. Jeep safaris are for a group of 6-7 people and take you deeper into the forest. Whereas, canter safaris accommodate a bigger group and take you to the outskirts of the park. Spotting wild animals in their natural habitat is an adventure in itself.
2. Kankwari Fort: Located deep inside the park, Kankwari Fort is a significant historical monument. The fort was once used as a stronghold by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, who imprisoned his brother there. Later, the fort was used as a base by the British government during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The fort also offers a spectacular view of the reserve.
3. Pandupol Hill: Pandupol Hill is a sacred pilgrimage site for the locals. The hill is named after Lord Hanuman, where according to Hindu mythology, he rested after fighting and killing the demon king Ravana. The hill offers a breathtaking view of the lush green forest and nearby hills.
4. Siliserh Lake: Siliserh Lake is an artificial lake located close to the park's entrance. Built in 1845, the lake is spread over 7 kilometers and is a perfect spot for birdwatching. Migratory birds such as pelicans, ducks, and geese can be spotted around the lake during winter.
5. Sariska Palace: The Sariska Palace was built by the Maharaja of Alwar, and later converted into a hotel. The Palace is located on the outskirts of the park and offers a luxurious stay with stunning views of the Aravalli Range.
Sariska Reserve and National Park provides an incredible opportunity to witness wildlife in their natural habitat while enjoying some of the most picturesque landscapes in India. Visitors can also indulge in activities such as hiking, bird watching, and photography.
