What to do in My Son, Vietnam
My Son is a quaint and picturesque town located in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. It is known worldwide for its ancient temple complex, which is one of the best-preserved Cham-era structures in the world.
My Son Sanctuary
The My Son Sanctuary is without a doubt the most prominent and important attraction in this town. It is a group of temple towers built between the 4th and 14th centuries AD by the Champa dynasty. The entire site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
The sanctuary is located on a picturesque valley surrounded by lush green mountains. Although many temples were destroyed during the Vietnam War, My Son still manages to maintain its grandeur and beauty, thanks to the conservation and restoration effort.
Visitors can take a guided tour of the sanctuary and learn about its rich history and significance. The temples are decorated with unique carvings and sculptures that are fascinating to explore.
Monkey Mountain (Son Tra)
Another popular tourist attraction in My Son is Monkey Mountain, also known as Son Tra Mountain. This majestic mountain range is home to an array of flora and fauna, including one of the world's rarest primates—the Red-Shanked Douc.
Visitors can take a scenic drive up to the top of the mountain and enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the city and the surrounding sea. Monkey Mountain is also home to the Linh Ung Pagoda, which is considered one of the most beautiful pagodas in Vietnam.
Phuoc Lam Pagoda
Phuoc Lam Pagoda, also known as Linh Phuoc Pagoda, is a pleasing place with colorful mosaics made out of shattered pottery, glass, and ceramics, which are superbly arranged into a range of motifs, from dragons and temples to cherry blossom trees and Buddhist deities.
The pagoda is located about 8 miles outside Da Lat and was founded in the early 1950s by Thich Tam Vi, a Buddhist monk who had served as a lieutenant colonel in the military for some time. It's an impressive architectural masterpiece that features a nine-story high tower, a 49-foot-long dragon sculpture made from glass bottles, and an 18-foot-tall bell-tower, among other things.
Conclusion
My Son is a paradise on earth, rich in history and culture, offering something for everyone. Whether you're fascinated by architectural marvels, love hiking, or simply enjoy relaxing and enjoying the beauty of nature, My Son will keep you satisfied with its mesmerizing attractions. So why not plan a trip to My Son today and explore this beautiful Vietnam town for yourself?
