What to do in Murshidabad, India
Murshidabad, located in the state of West Bengal in India, is a city steeped in history and culture. Once the capital of Bengal during the Mughal period, Murshidabad is home to several significant monuments and historical sites that attract tourists from all over the world. Here are some of the top tourist attractions in Murshidabad that you should not miss.
1. Hazarduari Palace: Perhaps the most iconic landmark in Murshidabad, Hazarduari Palace was built in the 19th century during the reign of Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah. The palace consists of 1000 doors, but only 900 of them are actual doors, with the rest being fake doors added to confuse intruders. Today, it houses a museum that displays a collection of swords, muskets, and other antique weapons.
2. Katra Mosque: Built in the early 18th century by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, the Katra Mosque is an impressive example of Mughal architecture. The mosque represents the fusion of Hindu and Islamic architecture, as it was built on the site of a former Hindu temple.
