What to do in Jerash, Jordan
The ancient city of Jerash in Jordan is a destination steeped in history and is considered one of the most well-preserved Roman cities in the world. Located just about 50km north of Amman, Jerash welcomes visitors from all corners of the globe who come to marvel at its impressive ruins and unique architectural wonders. If you're planning a visit to Jerash, these are the top tourist attractions that you shouldn’t miss:
1. The Hadrian's Arch - This is the largest and most impressive gateway of the city, built by the Romans to honor their emperor Hadrian who visited the city in AD 129. It’s a true testament to the grandeur of Roman engineering at the time.
2. The Cardo Maximus - This is the main street that runs through Jerash and is lined with columns on both sides, creating a grand boulevard that showcases the city's magnificence.
