What to do in Flaxmere, New Zealand
Flaxmere is a small suburb located in the Hawke's Bay region of the North Island of New Zealand. While it may not be as popular as some of the more well-known destinations in the country, Flaxmere has plenty of interesting tourist attractions to offer visitors.
1. Flaxmere Park
Flaxmere Park is a beautiful little oasis located right in the heart of the suburb. The park features a large artificial lake, walking paths, picnic areas, and plenty of space to relax in the sunshine. It's a great spot to spend a lazy afternoon or to get some exercise and fresh air.
2. Flaxmere Market
Every Saturday, the Flaxmere Market comes alive. Here, you can find local crafts, fresh produce, and all sorts of food and drink offerings. The market is a great place to mingle with locals and get a taste of the real Flaxmere.
3. Te Mata Peak
While not strictly in Flaxmere itself, Te Mata Peak is just a short drive away and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region. The peak rises to 399 meters and provides stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There are multiple walking tracks that lead to the summit, ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging.
4. Splash Planet
Located just a few kilometers from Flaxmere, Splash Planet is the perfect destination for families. The water park features a range of rides and attractions, from gentle slides for the little ones to adrenaline-pumping drops for the thrill-seekers. There are also plenty of food and drink options available, as well as a miniature golf course and other fun activities.
5. Arataki Honey Visitor Centre
For something a little more educational, head to the Arataki Honey Visitor Centre. This interactive museum and shop showcases the history and importance of honey production in New Zealand. You can sample a range of different types of honey, learn about the role that bees play in our ecosystem, and even dress up as a beekeeper.
