Toy Story 4 came out this past weekend in North America and it predictably topped the Box Office. That being said, the movie did not perform as high as the initial projections predicted it would make.

Last June, The Incredibles 2 came out and received an animation opening weekend record of $182 million.

Toy Story 4 was expected to do similar numbers as many Box Office analysts thought the movie would gross well over $150 million in its opening weekend this June.

As reported by Box Office Pro, Toy Story 4 underperformed and actually grossed an estimated $118 million this weekend in North America. While this is higher than the $110 million opening of Toy Story 3, it's still much lower than what was anticipated.

It has nothing to do with word of mouth or poor reviews either. The movie received a Cinemascore of "A" from average movie goers.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 98 percent rating from critics with a verified Audience Score of 95 percent.

Competition should not have been an issue either because Child's Play was the only new release of the week and it only earned $14 million this weekend.

The only reason Toy Story 4 may have underperformed is probably due to franchise fatigue. Not many people wanted a fourth movie in the franchise because the third movie of the series ended the trilogy so perfectly.

In either case, Toy Story 4 is still expected to have a leggy run. That being said, it will face strong competition very soon with Disney and Sony's own release of Spider-Man: Far From Home next month!
