Tool are a very popular American rock band that has managed to sell over millions of albums worldwide. Despite the band's popularity, sadly the band has not released a new album since 2006's '10,000 Days'.

For 12 years now, fans of Tool have been eagerly awaiting a new album but nothing has come into fruition. However, now it looks like progress is being made and a new album could possibly be released before the end of 2018.

Tool singer, Maynard J Keenan, posted a small update on the new album via his official Twitter account. You can read what he had to say on the matter down below.

Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks wont change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory. Still waiting for the FINAL on 1,..but way ahead. Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20.

It seems as if a definite release date for his side band 'A Perfect Circle's' new album is already set.

The new A Perfect Circle album is called "Eat the Elephant" and the band offers a slightly softer sound compared to Tool even though they share the same singer.

As aforementioned, Tool's last album was released back in 2006 and that is a long time to wait between albums.

Not even Metallica waited that long as their gap only lasted between 2008 until 2016 with the album releases of 'Death Magnetic' to 'Hardwired to Self Destruct'.

Hopefully Maynard J Keenan gives an even bigger update on the new album sometime later this year.

As good as Tool is as a rock band, fans deserve to hear some new material for once since an over decade album gap is usually rare for bands that have not broken up entirely.
