The Expendables movie franchise was a fun love letter to people that grew up watching action movies in the '80s and '90s.

The franchise spawned a trilogy, although things have been shaky regarding a fourth film. Sylvester Stallone himself has decided to leave the franchise altogether.

As reported by Deadline, Sylvester Stallone won't be returning for a fourth movie. This is due to disagreements with Avi Lerner who is the producer.

The pair wasn't able to agree on a director, script and other elements. In other words. both of them couldn't agree on the direction of the fourth film.

Stallone's main issue is that he wanted to increase the quality of The Expendables franchise.

After getting himself critical acclaim in Creed, Stallone didn't want to be associated with another rotten movie. Aside from maybe the second movie, the other films in the Expendables franchise have been poorly received by both critics and fans.

There were rumors a while back that the fourth film would star Hulk Hogan in a prominent role. This rumor started before his racist comments got leaked.

After that, nothing else much was reported on the fourth film. Not it seems like a fourth movie might not even be made if Sylvester Stallone is gone for good.

Bruce Willis also departed the franchise when the third movie came out. Stallone wasn't able to agree with Willis' demands.

Willis wanted a lot of money just to appear in the film for a few minutes. He was dropped in favor of Harrison Ford instead.

Stalllone's character was the main character in the franchise, so it would be interesting to see what happens if Avi Lerner decides to make a fourth film without Sly.

As of right now, it looks like a fourth film may not ever get made.
