Star Wars is a worldwide phenomenon, however the franchise is pretty unpopular over in China due to various reasons.

Since Star Wars: The Last Jedi flopped in the land of the Middle Kingdom, Solo: A Star Wars Story is going to have a different name in China.

Chinese Film Market Tracker, Gavin Feng, reported on Twitter that Chinese media are calling Solo: A Star Wars Story by a different name. You can read his comments posted down below.

According to local media Mtime, Official Chinese title of Solo: A Star Wars Story is Ranger Solo. And STAR WARS is abandoned in Solo's local title after Star Wars: The Last Jedi flopped in China.

Star Wars was only released in China in 2015 and this includes the original trilogy as well.

For some reason or another, Chinese audiences don't like Star Wars as much as the Fast and Furious franchise which is the highest Hollywood/foreign grossing movie in China.

The Last Jedi sadly flopped in China as it earned less money than both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The fact that the new movie is being called Ranger Solo in China might have a small chance of attracting new audience members.

Solo: A Star Wars Story/Ranger Solo faces an uphill battle at the Box Office anyway. It's releasing in the same month as Deadpool 2 as well as Disney's own Avengers: Infinity War.

Not to mention reports of the film's production have not gone smoothly. Many reshoots have occurred plus the movie had to be rewritten thanks to Ron Howard overtaking the director's chair from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Despite all the negativity, I'm hoping the movie can surprise everyone and is still a fun movie to watch. Hopefully it's only a matter of time until the first trailer is released online.
