Guy Ritchie is going to direct the live action remake for the classic Aladdin movie.

Early talks suggest that Tom Hardy is being eyed to play the role of the villainous Jafar in the movie. If this is true, this might not be received well...

According to a report from The Sun, sources say that Guy Ritchie wants Tom Hardy to play Jafar. This is a bit controversial considering Jafar is an Arabian character and Hardy is clearly English.

This is once again another example of Hollywood white washing characters. You can read the source's comments on the matter below.

Guy is a huge fan of Tom's work and securing him would be a major coup. There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he's certainly one of Guy's favoured choices. It just depends on schedules whether he'll be able to sign up.

In related news, Jade Thirlwall from the group Little Mix is being eyed to play Princess Jasmine. There were no other news about Thirlwall's involvement in the film so we will have to wait and see.

Bear in mind, this is just early talk and the cast could look different. Needless to say, Hardy being involved might not sit well if he chooses to play the part for real.

We've already seen how white washing has backfired recently.

Scarlett Johansson was cast in Ghost in the Shell, but the Box Office for the film suffered because of the backlash.

Hopefully in the Aladdin remake, someone that is actually Arabian or of Arabian descent is able to play to play the role of Aladdin himself.

There's still no release date for the film, so more details should be revealed in the near future. Casting the right people for the characters could make or break this live action remake.
