Sequels to comedies are usually bad as evident by the likes of Dumb and Dumber To and Zoolander 2 just to name a few.

Well the new Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle movie bucks that trend and manages to be a sequel that stands on its own two feet.

When Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was first revealed, predictably the internet hated it. They didn't think a sequel over twenty years later can match up to the original starring the late, great Robin Williams.

Alas, Jumanji 2 manages to actually be a good movie mainly because of its great cast and new twist to the story. Instead of board game characters invading the real Earth, this time the players are sucked inside a video game.

The main thing that makes this movie so entertaining is due to its main cast. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillian and Jack Black all have equal parts to shine and are funny in their own right.

My favorite performance has to be Jack Black though because his character is actually a young blonde teenager. Black hilariously tries his best to talk and act like a girl and the results are super funny.

Surprisingly for a comedy, there is some character development for the main roles. We get to know their own strengths and weaknesses and the team also work together in order to escape the video game's grasp.

The video game aspects of the movie are also unique and entertaining. You will see the characters talk about cutscenes, non playable characters (NPCs) and they even have limited lives.

I don't want to spoil all of the jokes, but one thing that happened to Kevin Hart's character made me laugh really hard. It's unexpected and very comical.

The only flaws I can think of is that the movie has some pretty bad CGI and the in-game villain is kind of weak and forgettable. Other than that, the main cast manages to make this movie very awesome.

Anyway, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a surprise hit and it's fun to watch even if you have never watched the original movie before.

It's mostly enjoyable from beginning to end and anyone in the family should have a great time watching it.

Verdict: 4/5 stars
