Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Worldwide Studios and Sony Computer Entertainment, has backed Shenmue III on Kickstarter.

The title was announced in E3, and it has been among one of the most requested sequels of the past decade.

The game has already crossed the halfway mark in its campaign. The end goal is $2,000,000.

Shenmue III will conclude Ryo Hazuki's quest to avenge his father. He was murdered by Lan Di at the beginning of the first game of the series.

In Shenmue II, Ryo comes face to face with his father's killer, but a fight never happens. The series has yet to be concluded.

"Where we left off... Ryo Hazuki has made his way to China in search of his father's killer," Shenmue III's official Kickstarter reads.

"There he meets a new travelling companion, Shenhua, and learns of a legend from her village that has foretold their path together.

The story continues as Ryo and Shenhua start off on a new journey that will take them farther into enemy territory, deeper into mystery, and ever closer to their destiny.

Will the mystery of the mirrors be revealed? How is Ryo's father connected to all of this? Will Ryo track down the Chi You Men cartel and face Lan Di in a final showdown?"

If you want to donate to a game that nobody thought would be made, now's your chance to do so. Barring some unforeseen catastrophe, it looks poised to pass its initial goal by a considerable margin.
