On The Rise: Melanie Martinez - On Tour Now!

The young and bright singer and songwriter from Long Island, Melanie Martinez, was first noticed for her sweet and young charm on NBC's hit singing competition 'The Voice' in 2012.

Now, Martinez has recently released her debut EP 'The Dollhouse' last month and has been spending her time collaborating with big names in the music industry including Robopop (Jessie J and Lana Del Rey) and Kinetics & One Love (B.o.B.).

The provocative vocalist has been selling out clubs across the country and winning over the hearts of music lovers around the world.

Her style is unique and addicting, and we had the chance to catch up with the young artist to discuss her time on 'The Voice', upcoming summer plans and her musical inspiration.

How did you get your start in music?
I started writing poems when I was younger, which later translated into songwriting. I started playing the guitar when I was 14, so I was then actually able to write songs.

I have always enjoyed singing. I was raised listening to The Beatles, hip-hop - every genre of music really. My dad is a music junkie.

Who are some of your musical inspirations?
I am inspired by Marina and the Diamonds, Lana Del Rey, Regina Spektor and a lot of indie-folk artists.

I kind of grew up on more alternative artists, which is actually what I am liking right now.

What did you learn from being on 'The Voice' that you have put into your current solo career?
I think just the whole being around a camera and having to be on your best behavior made me so used to it, that now if I was in front of a camera, I would know how to act and behave and control myself.

What do you have in store for the summer months?
I am touring in June, which is really exciting.

In July, I am going to LA to finish writing my album that I'm working on. It'll come out later this year!

Where are you most excited to perform this summer while on tour?
I am really excited to go to Nashville.

I also am excited to play in New York again. I'm from New York and the people here are always so excited when they go to shows and see live music, which will be really fun.
