Famous New Zealand actor Cliff Curtis has been cast in a pretty big role in the four Avatar sequels that will be out in the near future.

Many North American viewers will know him as one of the leads in Fear the Walking Dead, although he has been a household name in his native of New Zealand for much longer than that.

Anyway, according to a report from the New Zealand Herald, producer Jon Landau revealed to the newspaper that Cliff Curtis is going to play a "lead role" in the film.

He said that Curtis is a great actor and he and director James Cameron are both excited to have him in the sequels.

Curtis is set to play someone named Tonowari and he is the leader of the Metkayina clan. Both Landau and Cameron have said they have been following Curtis' work for a very long time.

This includes his iconic role in the New Zealand acclaimed Once Were Warriors. Curtis joins a big cast that also includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver just to name a few.

You don't have to worry about Curtis leaving Fear the Walking Dead because the actor's schedule will be free for both projects.

Filming the Avatar sequels will be cool for Curtis since most of the filming for those films will be taking place in his home country of New Zealand.

The release dates for the four sequels have all been revealed already. Avatar 2 is out December 18, 2020 with Avatar 3 coming out on December 17, 2021.

The series will take a three year break until Avatar 4's release date of December 20, 2024. After that, the fifth and final movie is finally released on December 19, 2025.
