Tony Hawk announced that he and Activision are creating a new video game featuring extreme skateboarding action.

"I think fans of the THPS series will be hyped," Hawk stated via Twitter.

Gamespot reported about a possible new Tony Hawk game in February.

"Activision can confirm that they have something in the works with Tony Hawk; more info coming soon," a spokesperson from the company told Gamespot.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was the first popular extreme sports franchise. But, since the release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, games bearing the skating legend's name have launched to fluctuating results.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was the best of the franchise. It has a score of 9 out of 10 from Gamespot.

The games often took liberties with physics--allowing the player to pull off gravity-defying combos. In addition, characters such as Spiderman, Wolverine, and Darth Maul were all playable in the THPS series.

The most recent game in the Tony Hawk franchise was Pro Skater HD--a remake of the original PlayStation and Nintendo 64 title. The game added modern graphics to the classic title--giving it a realistic look.

There is little information available about the Tony Hawk game currently in development, but Hawk stated that it would be available in 2015. But we will have news as it comes out.
