Disney and Lucasfilm are already planning more content to come out of the Star Wars franchise. A new trilogy is being planned separate from the current one as well as a live action TV series for the very first time.

On the official Star Wars website, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that Rian Johnson will write and direct a new Star Wars movie trilogy.

The trilogy will be set in another galaxy not covered by the franchise before and will introduce us to a host of all-new characters. It won't follow the events of the current trilogy with Rey, Finn and Poe.

Lucasfilm must be happy with Rian Johnson's work on The Last Jedi to allow him to be responsible for a new set of movies.

People online are hoping the new trilogy will be similar to the Knights of the Old Republic video games. This is a time period that the movies have never covered before where both Jedi and Sith were in larger numbers.

Also reported by The Verge, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a TV show about Star Wars is also in the works.

This is the first time the franchise will have a live action series of its own. The only TV shows that have been made so far have all been animated.

The new TV show is expected to be a part of Disney's own streaming service that will launch sometime in 2019.

Normally Star Trek is the franchise with lots of live action TV shows, but now it will be Star Wars' turn.

The franchise could help make the streaming service compete with the giant known as Netflix which is the king of video on demand services.
