Sunday was a triumphant and emotional moment for Alyssa, Steven, Stacey, and Darrin who makd it 40 days and 40 nights in the brutal Naked and Afraid XL challenge from Discovery. In "Out of Africa," the contestants dish about the challenge.

Alyssa, Steven, Stacey, and Darrin were able to make it the full 40 days and 40 nights of the challenge. It was one of the most intense seasons int he Naked and Afraid series and only the second addition to the super-sized challenge.

The show will explore the process and also give fans a sneak peek into some behind the scenes footage with interviews from the cast members.

It all kicked off with the cast who began preparing for the challenge in multiple ways. Whether it was chopping wood, walking on rocks or exposing themselves to the temperate elements. Local rangers wanted to advise the contestants before they went into the challenge.

They instructed the contestants on how to deal with specific animals like leopards and hyenas. Jake told a story of a news article that featured an article about a man who was mauled by a hyena.

Ryan said during the meeting was the only time he second-guessed himself and Alyssa second the notion. Angel said he was sweating bullets and all of the survivalists were accompanied by armed rangers, before being dropped off in the wilderness.

Most rangers were skeptical and some predicted only five to come out of it. They weren't far off at all.

The contestants talk about the dangers that are there every day including the fact that they were not on the top of the food chain.

Footage showed Steven coming across a dead boar covered in maggots and also went through the teams strategies when it came to building shelter.

Tawny talked about not getting the shelter up and Alyssa and Phaedra also laughed about the lack of shelter their team had.

More footage shows a run in with a couple of lions, which forced the producers and camera crew to bunker in with the cast in the Boma home. One of the producers was actually charged by one of the lions and was lucky to make it out of the situation alive.

If it wasn't for the rangers, things could have gotten much worse.

The special continued with footage of just how bad the tick situation was in South Africa. The severity of the tick bite fever is further explored by a medic who says they can be quite life threatening. On day 21 everyone was excited however, the threat of disease and malnutrition created much difficulty.

There was a mid-challenge weigh-in and much of the cast had lost 15-31 pounds. Jake lost the most followed closely by Stacey.

Alyssa didn't like losing as much weight as she did and food continued to remain scarce for the group. All of the contestants had some type of black out and they had to carry spears so that they wouldn't fall too hard when they stood up.

It was an everyday thing and Tawny said it only got worse. The narrator moved on to the water buffalo which Darrin said was one of the scariest animals.

They surrounded the camp and the cast members were quite scared of the buffalo who were just staring back at them. Steven and Alyssa were stopped dead in their tracks when they encountered one of the buffalos.

Darrin actually saved Ryan from thinking he was eating turtle eggs when it was really testicles. Jake and Ryan were pleasantly surprised by the taste if them.

Footage jumped around a bit and showed early footage of some of the team digging for seeds in the elephant poop. Alyssa and Phaedra didn't feel bad about eating it at all. Tawny said that it tasted like popcorn.

Of course it wouldn't be a special without talk about poop cycles. Much of the team tried to brush their teeth with charcoal and Ryan showed us all how to make our own beard brush in tough situations.

The girls showed off their armpit hair as if it was a competition. Everyone agreed that Darrin was the dirtiest member in the challenge.

He said it didn't bother him what they thought of him at that point. Phaedra tried to get him to bathe plenty of times and after weeks of resistance, he gave in.

Then, there was the contaminated fruit ordeal that started on day 28. Ryan said he ate between a dozen and 15 in a couple of days but it turned into a nightmare for him.

Ryan was removed from the challenge but he was very hesitant. The rest of the crew was shown the footage and then Phaedra, Jake and Kim came down with the symptoms.

The four remaining members realized the fruit was contaminated, not toxic. Steven said it was humbling for the ones that made it. By day 40 the four remaining members were thrilled to leave, so thrilled that Alyssa couldn't get her final words right.

Alyssa said she will never do the challenge again. Stacey said the challenge was unbelievable. They enjoyed a big feast in the end and loaded up on treats like Oreos and Doritos.

The reunions with the contestants families were pretty emotional and the after effects at home was pretty depressing. Many of the members were losing their hair.

When Jake got home he actually went through facial paralysis. It was all-in-all a memorable experience for these contestants who risked plenty to entertain viewers at home and prove they can survive Naked and Afraid for 40 days and 40 nights.

"Out of Africa" really gives fans the insight they need, should they decide to take on a challenge like this in the future.
