Rayquaza, the legendary Pokemon first introduced in Ruby and Sapphire, will be able to mega evolve in the games' upcoming remakes. It is the most recent in a line of announcements pertaining to mega evolution.

"The Dragon and Flying-type Pokemon, equal to Kyogre and Groudon, was first revealed earlier this month when Mega Evolutions for Gallade, Sharpdeo, and Camerupt were being unveiled," IGN reported, "It's since been confirmed that Rayquaza will be able to Mega Evolve in the upcoming 3DS and 2DS releases of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire."

Mega evolution was introduced in Pokemon X and Y--allowing players to temporarily upgrade their already powerful monster.

Legendary Pokemon were able to evolve in X and Y; Mewtwo was given two "Mega" forms depending on what version of the game you had.

Popular characters like Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Gengar, Alakazam, and Lucario were also able to undergo this temporary boost of power.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes of the third generation games, Ruby and Sapphire; the Pokemon Co. has been remaking past titles since the release of Fire Red and Leaf Green on the Game Boy Advance.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are scheduled to hit American and Japanese shelves on November 21. For more about the Pokemon franchise, including the two upcoming titles, visit its official website here.
