Even though Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle came out a few days before Christmas 2017, the movie is still stampeding over its competition. Not even Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been able to halt its run.

As reported by Box Office Pro, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle earned yet another $27 million this past weekend. The total will grow to over $33.4 million if you count the MLK Monday which is a public holiday.

Overall, the film has grossed $289.5 million in North America alone and is about to pass a trio of MCU movies in the process.

It's predicted that the well received Jumanji sequel could gross over $389 million in North America making it one of the highest grossing movies released in 2017.

The four day weekend wasn't too bad for Star Wars: The Last Jedi either. The film will earn around $14.7 million over the four day weekend where it will come close to grossing over $600 million in North America.

In terms of new releases, Steven Spielberg's 'The Post' will come in second with a gross of around $22.2 million. The Liam Neeson action thriller called 'The Commuter' will be in third position grossing $16 million.

Due to the lack of significant new releases in January, it's possible Jumanji 2 could still be the king of the Box Office for the weeks to come.

It's not until February that bigger movies are released such as Fifty Shades Freed and Black Panther are out.

Thanks to the success of Jumanji 2, it's possible Sony Pictures could be thinking of making another movie. It's one of the rare sequels that manage to be just as popular if not more than the original.
