When Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out in 2015, many people liked the movie although it felt like a remake of A New Hope.

J.J. Abrams is promising that Star Wars: Episode IX will have a new direction that we have not seen before.

The BBC (via StarWarsNewsNet) interviewed J.J. Abrams recently and he teased the new direction for Star Wars: Episode IX. The film has had to undergo several changes since Lucasfilm booted out Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow over creative differences. You can read Abrams' comments down below.

Well, it's certainly something that I'm aware of now working on Episode IX - coming back into this world after having done Episode VII. I feel like we need to approach this with the same excitement that we had when we were kids, loving what these movies were. And at the same time, we have to take them places that they haven't gone, and that's sort of our responsibility. It's a strange thing - Michael's worked on things like Planet of the Apes and Star Trek and Star Wars, and these are the things of dreams. Yet we can't just revel in that; we have to go elsewhere.

Some people were scared of Abrams coming back as they thought Episode IX will rehash the story and ideas that were in Return of the Jedi.

Well it seems as if Abrams is listening to the fan feedback and is going to offer us something different.

It's a long wait for Star Wars: Episode IX since the movie has been delayed until December 2019. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the eighth episode in the franchise and releases in North America on December 15th, 2017.
