Jared Leto is set to play the late Hugh Hefner in a new biopic movie that is currently in the works. The movie will tell the life of the charismatic Playboy founder. It should be an interesting movie to watch.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Jared Leto has always been interested in playing Hugh Hefner in a movie. The movie will be helmed by Brett Ratner who has wanted to make a biopic of Hefner as far back as 2007.

Ratner still plans on directing the movie. His comments on the project and Leto's casting can be seen down below.

Jared is an old friend. When he heard I got the rights to Hef's story, he told me, 'I want to play him. I want to understand him.' And I really believe Jared can do it. He's one of the great actors of today

Sadly, Leto never got a chance to meet Hefner when he was alive.

There was a chance earlier this year, but Hefner was suffering from ill health and wasn't in the mood to meet any guests.

Ratner is not worried though because there is lots of archival footage of Hefner out there for Leto to draw inspiration from.

Leto usually likes to go all-out in his movie roles.

The actor previously did weird things in order to become The Joker in Suicide Squad. It will be interesting to see the type of schenanigans that Leto will be doing to get into the character of Hugh Hefner.

There's still no release date for the film, but it's likely to be out very soon with Hefner passing away very recently. Leto is the perfect type of actor to portray a younger Hefner.
