The original Spawn movie came out in 1997 and the character was played by Michael Jai White. Sadly though, the film was bad and it flopped at the Box Office.

Fast forward two decades another and another Spawn movie has not been made yet. Well now a reboot has been in development and Deadline reports Blumhouse and chosen Jamie Foxx to play the title character.

The film will be directed by Spawn's creator Todd McFarlane and Jamie Foxx admitted he waited five years to play the character. You can read what Foxx had to say about the casting in his comments posted down below.

"A few years back I flew out to Arizona to meet the man behind one of the most incredible comic book characters in the universe… Todd McFarlane. He was taken aback when I told him with the enthusiasm of a young child that more than anything I wanted to put my name in the hat to embody his beloved character Spawn…. I told him no one would work harder than me if given the opportunity… well… the opportunity is here!! I’m humbled and ready to transform… and to top things off the young Jason Blum is lending his brilliance to the project! Time to be great!!!! #Spawn".

This won't be the first time that Jamie Foxx will be starring as a famous comic book character on the big screen. Movie goers may have remembered he played the villain of Electro in Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in 2014.

There's still no release date for the new Spawn movie, but it will have a limited budget and Todd McFarlane is writing the script. Hopefully the new movie is better than the original film!
