In February of 2016 Bill Simmons made what would be one of the biggest announcements of his career thus far.

He revealed that he would be launching a new sports and entertainment crossover website called The Ringer later on in the year.

Little by little more information on the new site has been surfacing but here's what we know about The Ringer so far.

Events That Started It All

As many already know, Simmons was let go by ESPN after his run as founding editor of the highly successful site Grantland. What made it even more interesting was that the split from ESPN was made public by an article from the New York Times.

After Simmons was let go, it caused a chain reaction of top editors parting ways. Subsequently Grantland fell and is now existing as a page with archived content.

The Announcement

Simmons took to Twitter to make the announcement for his new website called The Ringer and revealed that it would be released later on in 2016.

The Homepage

As of March 2016, The Ringer homepage consists of a sign up for a newsletter that features updates, "riffs from our writers, and the occasional Russell Westbrook GIF." There are also links to The Bill Simmons Podcast and a second podcast called Channel 33 that features a rotating cast members including Mallory Rubin who is the Deputy Editor of The Ringer.

The homepage also features the social media accounts associated with the page such as Twitter and Facebook. If you wanted to take a shot at joining the team, there is also a "we're hiring" section.

Failed Names

Just recently, Simmons gave his fans and followers a look into the developmental stage of The Ringer, with a list of failed names for the site.

The list consisted of names such as The Rafters, The Leap, Watershed, The Curve, Offspeed and many more which were published by ForTheWin. FTW also reported that (F**k ESPN) was a name that was jokingly considered by Simmons.
