Guilty Gear Xrd-SIGN-, the latest installment in the popular fighting franchise, is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 this December.

Aksys Games announced the news on the PlayStation Blog. Acknowledging the series' longevity--the first Guilty Gear title was released 16 years ago--Aksys talked about the technical progression of the franchise.

"The series has been around since time immemorial (and by that I mean for 16 years!).

It's been redesigned from the world of 2D," Aksys stated , "to incorporate both 2D and 3D elements, making it a veritable feast for the eyes kind of experience, thanks to some technical Arc System Works magic and the Unreal 3 engine.

Thanks to that, 3D models create the illusion of 2D sprites without anyone being the wiser."

In addition to graphic upgrades, Xrd- SIGN- will build upon the series' signature mechanics, such as the "Roman Cancel"--allowing the player to access multiple different fighting styles simultaneously.

A limited edition of Xrd-SIGN- will also be released.

It will "contain a box of all the goodies, fashioned in the likeness of the 'Backyard,' the Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Vocal Collection, the Guilty Gear Xrd-SIGN- Character Book which will provide information on characters, terms, and concepts from the beginning of the series to the present, and finally, the Sol Badguy 'FREE' belt buckle keychain."

Guilty Gear Xrd-SIGN- hits American shelves on December 16,2014. For more about the franchise, visit its official website here.
