Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

2 is finally out in North America and the numbers are already huge for its Thursday preview sessions. The film has already earned over $17 million and is projected to get a very high box office weekend total.

As noted by Box Office Mojo, the $17 million that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earned in Thursday previews puts it in the same ballpark as Beauty and the Beast 2017.

That movie earned $16.3 million from previews and eventually grossed over $174 million during its opening weekend. The number is slightly below the $18.7 million that The Avengers earned back in 2012. The Avengers went on to make a massive $207.4 million opening weekend.

Judging by its current trajectory, current estimates say that the film could earn anywhere between $150 to $170 million in its opening weekend. Word of mouth seems to be positive so far as the film still has a healthy 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The audience score is even higher with 89% of fans liking the film so far. Usually a positive review from both fans and critics translates to a bigger opening weekend.

It's possible Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could be the biggest earner for Summer 2017.

The only film(s) that could match it this Summer include Spider-Man: Homecoming and possibly Transformers: The Last Knight.

The latter film may not be as popular in North America, but it's still a huge money earner overseas. China contributed a lot of money towards Transformers: Age of Extinction and this new movie could do a similar number.

Anyway, Guardians 2 is worth watching if you like the first movie.

It's not as good as the first, but it's still got a lot of jokes and explosive action. The only flaws in my mind is the pace and lack of direction towards its story.
