The 2016 summer Olympics in Rio launched their opening ceremonies beginning Thursday and who better to lead the festivities than the myriad supermodels who hail from South America.

First, there was Giselle Bundchen, originally from Brazil, strutting to the song "The Girl from Ipanema," and wearing a gold sequined column dress by designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.

The supermodel walked one of the longest catwalks of her life to celebrate both the opening ceremony of the games and mark her retirement from the runway.

Adriana Lima, who's also from Brazil, carried the Olympic torch ahead of the opening ceremonies.

Lima shed tears during the event, overcome by emotion to be carrying the torch. Lima also posted on her Instagram about feeling humbled to be chosen for the honor.

Lima was also spotted celebrating at the Games with a few other celebrities, including fellow model Alessandra Ambrosio, another model chosen to carry the Olympics torch who did so on Friday.

Cheers to a fun day with @ryanseacrest and @adrianalima !!! #RIO2016 #olympics #errejota #Riostyle
