During the Star Wars Celebration event, Lucasfilm has now revealed the first trailer for the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode IX. Not only was the first trailer released, but we finally know the official name for the movie too.

Star Wars: Episode IX is officially called Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and it will be the last ever episode for the main story arc.

Future films will not be based on the Skywalker family as they're expected to be set in an entirely new galaxy with different characters.

Luke Skywalker himself narrates during this trailer as we see Rey having to fight a new TIE Interceptor by herself. Other heroes such as Poe, Finn, Chewbacca and the droids also appear in this trailer.

Older fans will be happy to see Lando Calrissian return and he will pilot the Millennium Falcon. The trailer does not show many new characters, so we might not see them until closer to the movie's release date this December.

As for the bad guys, Kylo Ren is back and he will be wearing the same helmet he wore in The Force Awakens. He repairs it after he broke it getting angry at Snoke in The Last Jedi.

The biggest and most shocking reveal of the trailer is that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees the return of Emperor Palpatine.

It's unknown if he's still alive, but it's possible he has returned in Sith Ghost form. The only thing we hear is his evil laugh at the end of the trailer.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases in North America on December 20th, 2019. You can check out the first teaser trailer posted down below.
