Lionhead Studios, the company behind Fable Legends, gave fans "everything (they) need to know" about the closed beta for their upcoming title.

"First and foremost" Lionhead posted on the official Fable Legends website," this will be a real Closed Beta test and we want your help to make Fable Legends the incredible experience we're aiming for.

We're inviting fans to help test the game as early in the development process as possible; not only do we want your help with identifying bugs, glitches and crashes, we also want to hear your ideas, feedback and suggestions!"

The beta begins on October 16. And Lionhead is going to be sampling a "very small slice" of Fable Legends for a few lucky fans.

The selection process is going to depend on how dedicated the fan is--Lionhead encouraged players to become active in online Fable Legends communities in order to increase the chances of being selected.

Fable Legends will launch on the Xbox One but its release date hasn't been announced. It takes place 400 years before the first Fable, according to IGN--a time when Albion's mythos is being written. In Legends, you can choose between being the hero or villain.

This is standard for the Fable franchise, but the gameplay changes depending on which role you pick. The villain gameplay will be reminiscent of real time strategy.

"Fable has always given you the choice over whether to be the hero or the villain," IGN reports, "but as game director David Eckelberry points out, that's never fundamentally changed the gameplay before.

This time it absolutely does. The villain role is inspired by the Sauron-esque image of the villain atop some tower, looking down and directing minions on the battlefield."

The beta starts on October 16, you can sign up for it here.
