Last week Ellen DeGeneres made plenty of her fans and viewers emotional as she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

During a monologue on her show, DeGeneres proudly displayed her medal and chatted about the moment she received it.

Fans cheered as DeGeneres reminded them about her honor. DeGeneres said it was her best Thanksgiving ever and while she did know about the honor for a month before she received the medal, she couldn't say anything.

She joked that it was top secret and she couldn't let it fall into the hands of the Russians.

DeGeneres brought her family to the ceremony and they were walking with a handler. The handler asked her if she had her ID and DeGeneres did not.

She felt like she was receiving the Medal of Freedom so she didn't need it.

However, you cannot enter a government building without proper identification. DeGeneres was sitting on the bench at the White House trying to figure out how she was going to get her ID.

The rest of the honorees were walking past her and DeGeneres' wife thought it was so funny that she took a photo of her waiting. After they tweeted the situation out someone came out of the White House to let DeGeneres in and the rest is history.
