While his fandom is well aware of his new ink, the meaning behind Ed Sheeran's new tattoo is still unclear but given the recent death of Cecil the Lion in Zimbabwe, could the tattoo be a tribute to the majestic creature?

Cecil the lion was killed by an American dentist, Walter J. Palmer a few weeks back sending the internet into outrage.

Celebritiesand the entire world came together and mourned the death of one of Zimbabwe's most beloved creatures, so, the fact that Ed Sheeran recently got a large lion tattooed on his chest seems a bit too coincidental.

That being said, Sheeran hasn't really expressed the meaning behind his brand new lion tattoo, all we know is that it was painful for the singer/songwriter who posted a photo of the tattoo in progress, with the caption reading, "Halfway and ouch."

The tattoo does lay over the center of the chest where your heart would rest so Sheeran could also be telling us that he has the heart of a lion. After all yesterday was #WorldLionDay.

Either way, Sheeran has just added a very large and impressive tattoo to the many others that grace his body.

Check out the tattoo below and let us know in the comments if you're a fan of Ed Sheeran's new ink.
