The reviews for Alien: Covenant have started to come in, and reception for the movie has been mostly positive so far. The only issue that some reviewers have is the fact that it's like two movies in one.

It's both an Alien movie, and a sequel to Prometheus. In other words, it's trying to do two things at once.

Anyway, the early Rotten Tomatoes score (as of time of writing) for Alien: Covenant is a healthy 81 percent. This is based on 27 reviews that have been collected thus far.

22 reviews are positive while only 5 of them are negative. Even though this movie is liked by critics so far, the biggest test is if the hardcore Alien fan base will love it.

If we cast our minds back to Prometheus, that movie has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 72 percent. This is quite high considering since many fans didn't like that film.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Alien franchise, but even I know that Prometheus had some major flaws. Many plot points were left unanswered and some of the characters' actions were ever explained or resolved.

As for the new movie, reviews suggest the film delivers in gore and violence. Judging by what I have read so far, the Alien stuff does not occur until the last third of the film though.

The beginning of the film is slower focusing on the "Prometheus" side of things. Not to mention Michael Fassbender has a lot of screen time from the looks of things since he has the chance to play as two characters.

Anyway, Alien Covenant releases on May 12th, 2017 in the United Kingdom and does not make its way into North America until May 19th, 2017. It will be interesting to see if the Rotten Tomatoes score can manage to stay positive.
