Star of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, has now thanked fans living in Australia and New Zealand for making his movie number one in both countries over the New Year's holiday.

Unlike in North America, the release date for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was on Boxing Day in Australia and New Zealand.

The holiday opening for the film proved to be a success because the movie managed to beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi for the top spot.

Dwayne Johnson thanked fans from down under via a new video he posted on Instagram.

He says he loves to come back to Australia every now and then when he films a new movie and is humbled by the big opening for Jumanji.

As for New Zealand, the country has a special place in his heart because he used to live there in the city of Auckland.

Not to mention he also has a lot of family members still living there and it's the country that taught him how to play the tough sport of Rugby.

Despite Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opening strong in both countries, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is still going to be the top grossing movie released in 2017.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently second in Australia behind Beauty and the Beast while in New Zealand, the film is second to Thor: Ragnarok.

Still, Johnson's new movie is exceeding expectations worldwide and should be considered a win for Sony Pictures.

The buzz for the film was negative when it was first revealed, but people finally gave the film a chance and now they love the Jumanji sequel.
