Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been on television for many years and it's still a part of the MCU timeline.

However despite taking place in the same universe, we aren't going to see any movie characters pop up on the TV screen for the foreseeable future.

This piece of sad news was confirmed recently by Screen Rant.

Screen Rant were lucky enough to visit the set of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and they got to talk to executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen Whedon.

Jed says having MCU characters is something that might not ever happen. Maurissa was blunter with her answer and said she doesn't think Iron Man will ever appear on the show.

Jed then gave a long answer that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was never a TV show about characters with super powers. It was their intention from the start to make the show more grounded compared to the content we see from the Hollywood movies.

The only rules they have to follow with the TV show is to keep continuity. This is in order to have a "cohesive universe" Jed explains.

It is also expected that The Avengers characters are unlikely to ever know that Phil Coulson is still alive.

Some movie characters have appeared on the show before such as Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). However, none of the major characters have or ever will appear.

It's highly unlikely Robert Downey Jr.

will appear on the small screen since he's way too expensive anyway. Not to mention Marvel seems to like keeping its movies and TV shows separate even though they are from the same universe/timeline.
