Currently obtaining her MA in England, Diana Beltran Herrera is a vibrant artist born in Bogota, Colombia. One look at her work tells you that she is all about capturing the motion and emotion of nature.

The biography on her website distills her vision as such: "Herrera's work seeks to explore the chillingly disengaged relationship between humans and nature in modern society.

Using paper as her primary medium she is able to present notions of temporality and change, emphasising the process of transformation that continuously occur in nature as well as mankind."

Her sculptures exclusively represent birds with maybe a branch or flower for the setting. The delicate objects are colourful, light and elegant, and at the same time precise, meticulous and full of poetry.

They are made of little pieces of paper carefully placed to give life to the fragile birds, that sometimes are shown fighting, singing or simply flying, vibrating in the space between reality and fantasy.

On why she chooses birds, Herrera explains: "I discovered that I was living in a city full of nature, but somehow the traffic and modernism never allowed me to see what was living in there.

With time, I started to find those plants, animals and life in general and felt astonished about each single thing, but the most recurrent animal was always the bird."

Her works can currently be seen at the The Cornell Fine Arts Museum in Orlando, where she is displaying eight sculptures of local bird species.

She is also gearing up for a group show Beyond Eden in LA. More information about her can be found on her website where we found these fabulous photos!
