The console wars continue to be hot topic in the gaming industry.

With the Playstation 4 hitting record sales, the Xbox One is trying to keep pace. Microsoft, however, is having difficulty competing with Sony; the Playstation 4 has outsold the Xbox One for the eighth consecutive month.

Neowin reported, "Despite Microsoft dropping the starting price of its Xbox One console to $399 in June, it has yet to beat the Playstation 4 in monthly sales since the move.

August has prove no different, as the PS4 came out on top yet again."

With final sales numbers for August, Sony can be satisfied with the results; not only did they outsell their main competitor, but also they reached a milestone of 10 Million units sold.

Sony posted on their blog on August 12, reporting the achievement, "We just announced that the Playstation 4 has sold through more than 10 Million Units worldwide--and more than 30 Million PS4 games have been sold--since its launch less than nine months ago.

It's a remarkable milestone that reinforces PS4's record-breaking pace and the movement it has created among players globally defining next generation gaming."

But Microsoft also has reason to be optimistic. While they are still trailing their rival in sales, the Xbox One is rising in popularity.

Geekwire reported, "However, Xbox One sales are on the rise. Microsoft said today that it 'nearly' doubled Xbox One sales from July thanks in part to strong demand for the Xbox One Madden NFL 15 bundle."

But, with Sony and Microsoft continuing their retail slugfest, some media outlets report that it could be their final bout.
