New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) held Wrestle Kingdom 12 last night and it was an epic event. One of the reasons why the event was so awesome is because of the Canadian battle between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega.

Unfortunately, I only had the chance to check out a few matches because the event was running quite long.

I saw Cody vs Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay win an excellent Fatal 4 Way match and of course the aforementioned Jericho vs Omega match.

Chris Jericho has not wrestled in Japan since the '90s, but age is just a number because he was able to deliver a great match even at the age of 47! Despite this, he and Kenny Omega managed to wrestle for close to 35 minutes in a brutal no DQ match.

The thing that made this match so great is because Jericho was able to do things he's not allowed to do in WWE anymore.

Jericho busted Omega wide open with blood dripping down his face and he even hit Omega in the head with a steel chair at one point.

Blood and steel chair shots to the head are both banned in the WWE, so it was nice to see some more hardcore style wrestling.

They also managed to have a match that was evenly paced and never felt too boring to watch.

Usually when wrestling matches go for over 30 minutes, wrestlers sometimes rest and do boring things like headlocks and sleeper holds. Well these two didn't do that as they made the match exciting throughout.

One of my favorite spots from the match included Kenny Omega jumping over the barricade and smashing himself through a table. Omega got revenge later on in the match when Jericho fell backwards on a table too!

There was a lot of drama in the match as Jericho used his 'Walls of Jericho' submission a lot of times with Omega nearly tapping out. Jericho himself kicked out of many signature moves from Omega too.

At the end of the match though, Omega won using his 'One Winged Angel' finisher to Jericho on top of a chair. The match was brutal, fast paced, and very athletic despite the age of Jericho.

It will be hard for WWE to try and top this match. The only match that could rival Omega vs Jericho is if AJ Styles faces Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34.

We are just four days into January and Omega and Jericho already gave us a bona fide Match of the Year (MOTY) contender. Let's hope other wrestling promotions up their game for the rest of 2018.
