Box Office: Skyscraper Gets Toppled By Hotel Transylvania 3

Usually Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is able to carry film to a decent Box Office opening. We've seen this recently with the likes of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle as well as with Rampage earlier this year.

However, The Rock's star power in Skyscraper was no match for Sony Animation's Hotel Transylvania 3 this weekend. The animated movie came out on top this Box Office weekend to gross an impressive $42.2 million.

While Hotel Transylvania 3 did not match the $48.4 million of its predecessor, it still matched the original total's opening weekend.

The movie has a Cinemascore of A- and should still gross well for the rest of the month due to no direct competition from other kids movies.

Things don't look too good for Skyscraper as it is one of the lowest openings for star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

The movie is only estimated to have an opening weekend of only $24.2 million going below the second weekend of Ant and the Wasp which grossed $28.1 million.

This is seen as a disappointment because early estimates suggested that Skyscraper should have opened with at least over $30 million in its opening weekend.

Things aren't going to be easy for the movie because later this month it faces competition from other action films such as The Equalizer 2 and Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Even fans of The Rock won't be able to carry the film to great heights as word of mouth isn't as strong as his previous films.

Jumanji 2 and Rampage got a Cinemascore of an A- but Skyscraper only mustered a B+ ranking from movie goers.

Things look bad in North America, but Skyscraper is still expected to be a huge hit overseas.

The studio is hoping the film's release next week in China could boost its Box Office potential. After all, Skyscraper was filmed in China and it stars many Chinese actors too.
