The biggest competition for Disney this week was itself because Black Panther managed to hold off A Wrinkle in Time for the top spot of the Box Office weekend.

It does not seem like there is any movie right now that can halt the Marvel superhero's momentum at the moment.

As reported by Box Office Pro, Black Panther is the first film since Star Wars: The Force Awakens to win four Box Office weekends in a row.

Its gross this weekend is an astounding $41.1 million increasing to $562 million in North America alone.

Earning $562 million domestically means the film has now made more money the $534.9 million gross of The Dark Knight back in 2018. The film could now even eclipse the $623 million domestic gross earned by The Avengers in 2012.

From a worldwide standpoint, the 2018 superhero film has now received $1.078 billion globally. The film had a decent opening in China and it might even outgross Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Civil War in the next few weeks.

Disney was its own competition because A Wrinkle in Time had a soft opening only earning $33.3 million this past weekend. Despite having a lot of hype, the film suffered due to bad word of mouth and poor reviews.

A Wrinkle of Time only has a 42 percent rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score is much worse as only 35 percent of average movie goers like the film so far.

Due to the lackluster reception, it's entirely possible the second weekend will drop a lot. Next weekend sees the release of Tomb Raider which is sure to overtake A Wrinkle of Time easily.

Disney does not have to worry too much since Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story is coming out soon which is sure to make the studio a lot of money in April and May respectively.
