People were disappointed to know when Billy Dee Williams was not coming back to star in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Well fans can celebrate again because it has been announced that Billy Dee Williams will be back in Star Wars: Episode IX to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.

This news comes from an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter as their sources confirmed the good news earlier today.

This will be the first time Billy Dee Williams is playing a live action version of the character since 1983's Return of the Jedi.

That said, Williams has not fully avoided the role over the years. He has managed to voice Lando Calrissian in lots of other occasions such as in various Star Wars cartoon and video games recently.

The character of Lando Calrissian was not "required" according to JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Thankfully, Abrams found time for him to appear in Episode IX so it will be interesting to see how he fits into the new trilogy.

Actors expected to return in Episode IX include Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Issac and Adam Driver.

It's rumored Mark Hamill will reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in the new film, but he will only appear as a Force Ghost. I'm hoping he's not fully dead, but that's just wishful thinking on my part.

The new face of Episode IX will be Keri Russell who was cast in the movie just a few days ago.

The role Russell will play is expected to have lots of action so she will need to start training in order to get in shape.

Filming for Episode IX is expected to start very soon so we should know details about it by the end of the year.

It will serve as the final film in the sequel trilogy which started with The Force Awakens which came out in December 2015. Episode IX will be released in North America on December 20th, 2019.
