Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a record breaking $247.9 million opening weekend back in December 2015 that few people thought would ever be broken. Well Disney has broken its own record thanks to Avengers: Infinity War.

As reported by Box Office Pro, Avengers: Infinity War had a record breaking opening weekend of over $250 million. This record is not unexpected mainly because fans had been waiting for this film to come out for 10 years now.

This number just accounts for how much money the movie made in North America because its worldwide opening weekend is even much bigger. BBC reports that the global opening weekend of the movie came to $630 million worldwide.

This breaks the previous global record that The Fate of the Furious got last year opening with a then record breaking $542 million.

The Avengers record is even more impressive mainly because it does not include China yet as they don't get the film until May.

Despite a cliffhanger ending, word of mouth still seems to be very positive for Infinity War. The movie received a healthy "A" grade from movie goers that voted on Cinemascore.

Its Rotten Tomatoes rating is also pretty decent with a score of 84 percent currently.

One has to wonder if Infinity War has enough legs to power on and beat both Titanic and Avatar to become the highest grossing movie of all time.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens fell short of the mark mainly because of Star Wars' lack of popularity over in China.

There's more awareness about Marvel over in Asia and China so there's a chance the third Avengers movie could go on to break even more records. We'll just have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.

Infinity War has three weeks to dominate the Box Office because the only competition it faces is Deadpool 2 which is not out until May 18th, 2018.

It will be interesting to see how much more money it can earn around the world!
