Production for the four Avatar movies has started and the budget for the films could be astronomical. It could be one of the most expensive film budgets in Hollywood history according to recent estimates.

As reported by Deadline, the Avatar sequels are being filmed consecutively over the next few years. The budget for the production is expected to be over $1 billion.

It is going to be one of the most expensive film shootings in history. Only Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 could match it. The Avengers films are also supposed to have a rumored budget of close to $1 billion too.

Pre-production for the films started years ago, but today marks the time that the actors will be in mo-cap suits to shoot several scenes in the sequels.

Avatar 2 is going to be finished first with the other films set to be completed in the near future.

Due to the nature of the films, there will be a lot of post production work in order to animate all the CGI effects.

Returning to star in the sequels are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver.

Cliff Curtis joins the franchise as well. The sequels will have a lot of new locations, but it will still focus on the familar characters from the first movie.

It's rumored director James Cameron is also working on a new piece of 3D technology.

He wants to make a 3D experience in the cinema without the use of 3D glasses for people to wear. If he is successful, the sequels could earn lots of money much like the first movie.

Avatar 2 is out in 2020 with Avatar 3 released in 2021. After that, Avatar 4 is out in 2024 with the fifth and final movie finally released in 2025. It's going to be a long wait, but hopefully it will be worth it.
