In her photo series, "Broken Houses," New York City-based artist Ofra Lapid captures the gradual decay of abandoned buildings.

Lapid creates miniature scale models of dilapidated barns, homes, and other structures and then photographs them against sterile gray backgrounds. Her models are themselves based on photos of actual buildings, taken by a photographer in North Dakota.

Lapid came across the photographs on the internet and was so taken by them that she decided to use them as references for her own work.

Each detail is faithfully reproduced, from the peeling paint to the crumbling brick, broken shingles, and collapsing frames.
