Marvel Studios continues its impressive 2018 as Ant-Man and the Wasp debuted at the number one spot in its opening Box Office weekend.

That being said, the movie opened at the lower end of expectations, but numbers can shift up in the coming days thanks to strong word of mouth.

Initially, analysts predicted that Ant-Man and the Wasp would have opened with an opening weekend of around $80 million or $90 million.

Well as reported by Box Office Pro, the movie instead opened to $76 million which is only a small increase from the $57.2 million opening of the first Ant-Man released in 2015.

Ant-Man was never expected to gross a lot of money, although this opening is one of the lowest in MCU history.

It's a far cry from the $202 million opening of Black Panther and the over $250 million weekend of Avengers: Infinity War.

With numbers like this, it looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp might not gross over $200 million in North America.

On a worldwide standpoint, the movie grossed around $85 million for a total global opening of $161 million. At this rate, the movie might gross over $500 million by the end of its run.

The movie has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 86 percent so word of mouth continues to be strong.

It could have a decent second weekend mainly because the only competition that the movie faces next weekend is Skyscraper starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Other two movies making a lot of money include The Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The Incredibles 2 has made $772.7 million globally so far while Jurassic World 2 is having an amazing run with $1.058 billion worldwide.
