Now that the Super Bowl is over, more movies are able to be released in the cinema this week ahead of President's Day weekend. The movie to come out on top this weekend is Alita: Battle Angel.

As reported by Box Office Pro, Alita: Battle Angel earned a traditional 3 day weekend gross of $27.8 million. If we include the 4 day Holiday weekend, the film is estimated to make over $33 million.

Since the movie opened on a Wednesday, the full North American tally for the film so far is $41.7 million. This sounds okay, but the total is minuscule if you want to compare it next to its production budget.

This is because Alita: Battle Angel cost over $170 million to make so it needs to gross a lot of money overseas if the studio wants to break even with the movie.

Word of mouth from critics is mixed as it has received a 59% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score fares better at a current 93% rating so far.

From a worldwide standpoint, Alita: Battle Angel has now grossed over $130 million globally. The movie will be released in China next weekend so that might be the biggest market to help make the film break even.

Other new releases this weekend include the movie called 'Isn't It Romantic' and 'Happy Death Day 2U. The movies grossed $14.2 million and $9.8 million respectively this weekend.

Both movies were not able to beat The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part which grossed over $21.2 million in its second weekend. The sequel is still a Box Office disappointment because its gross is far lower than the 2014 original.
