Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander is currently playing Lara Croft in a reboot for the Tomb Raider franchise.

A new photo has been posted looking at her in the role and the actress has now expressed the main reason why she was interested in the role in the first place.

Despite the first two movies being critically panned, many people were impressed with Angelina Jolie's performance as Lara Croft several years ago.

Vikander expressed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she was interested in the role mainly to become a great role model to young women all over the world. You can read her comments down below.

I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She's trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits--tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she's kick ass!

Vikander also said that she was excited when she was approached to play the role.

Vikander mentioned that Lara Croft is different to the other characters she has played in other movie roles. She has never really played a physical role before, so playing Lara Croft has been thrilling for her so far.

The big elephant in the room to address is if Tomb Raider will actually be a good movie. Hollywood has yet to make a video game movie that is praised by a lot of people.

Most of them have been really poor, or just guilty pleasures at best. Other video game movies have too much jargon for casual movie goers to understand. Last year's Warcraft is a good example of this...

Anyway, the next Tomb Raider movie will be released on March 16th, 2018. Aside from Vikander, the movie also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Dominic West.
