Yesterday, The Young Turks celebrated their 15th anniversary of being on air. Cenk Uygur actually started The Young Turks on Valentine's Day in 2002.

On that day, Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and Jill Pike began their time on Sirius satellite radio. Although Uygur actually had started a public access show called The Young Turk prior, this was the first time that the show was broadcast to the world.

The show was originally run out of Uygur's one-bedroom apartment. At that time, they mailed the recording in to the studio. He eventually found out that for the first several months, Sirius was airing the same episode over and over.

Since then, The Young Turks has had its ups and downs.

Their main show (also named The Young Turks) was picked up by Air America, but that channel quickly folded, and The Young Turks was soon removed from the Sirius lineup.

After that, Uygur focused on doing an online show, until he got the opportunity to work at MSNBC and later Current TV.

However, Uygur soon left MSNBC, and Current TV was sold to Al Jazeera and then shut down. The Young Turks remained online, and was able to get a massive subscriber base and billions of video views.

Today, February 15, The Young Turks plan to host a multi-hour show looking back on the last 15 years. The show will start at 6 PM Eastern time and is likely to continue through midnight Eastern.

During their post game yesterday, Uygur and Ana Kasparian discussed their memories of the last several years. Uygur discussed his tryouts on the radio, back to WRKO in Boston.

He explained that all of the callers hated him, so the producer didn't put them on air. He was unable to fill the time -- but now he can easily fill hours on the air alone.

Uygur explained that early in The Young Turks' history, they did a lot more entertainment. For example, they asked Jill Pike whether she would sleep with L. Dennis Kozlowski, a disgraced CEO.

Congratulations to The Young Turks!

Update: Cenk Uygur made some surprising announcements during the celebration. For example, there is a world leader who watches TYT. Who is it? Read the story.
