The WWE usually only goes to big venues such as football stadiums for the WrestleMania event each and every year.

Now it seems the company wants to make the Royal Rumble a big event as next year it will be held inside of a baseball stadium for the very first time.

WWE announced via a press release that next year's Royal Rumble event will be taking place inside Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

I think this will be the third time in Royal Rumble history that the event will take place in a bigger venue than a normal sized arena.

The past two times WWE were at the Alamodone in San Antonio, Texas which has a seating capacity of around 60,000 people. Chase Field is slightly smaller with a maximum capacity of around 50,000 people.

The Alamodome Royal Rumble events took place in the years of 1997 and 2017. Every other event in the PPV's history mostly took place in the usual arenas which made the show feel not that much different from other PPVs.

The move to bigger venues should make the Royal Rumble PPV feel more important just like WrestleMania.

I liked the 2017 event last year mainly because it had a different atmosphere compared to all of the other PPV events WWE normally stages every month.

Royal Rumble 2019 will occur on January 27th, 2019. It will be a huge weekend mainly because NXT Takeover, Raw and Smackdown Live will be happening on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday respectively.

The other TV shows will be taking place inside the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.

The two venues aren't too far away from each other so fans will likely want to try and attend as many of the events as possible.

I also think Chase Field is just the second WWE event in history to be taking place inside of a baseball field. The first time was back in 2003 where Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington hosted the excellent WrestleMania XIX event.
