WWE Payback 2017 was on and it was surprisingly a very good show.

The Raw brand has previously struggled to put on a good PPV for many months due to having a lackluster roster. This event was good thanks to the recent Superstar Shakeup as well as some unique booking decisions.

The main event of Payback 2017 was excellent as it featured the mega stars of Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. Both of these wrestlers played to their strengths and went out there to have a smash mouth brawling kind of match. It didn't go on for too long and rarely were there any boring moments.

In the end though, Braun Strowman beat Roman Reigns with two power slams. Strowman even beat up Reigns with the steel steps after the match was over. Reigns was selling his injuries well here.

My other favorite match from Payback 2017 was the House of Horrors contest between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt. They started the match inside a house and brawled inside the cramped space.

Wyatt even pushed down a fridge on top of Orton in devastating fashion. After they came back to the arena, Jinder Mahal and the Singh Brothers interfered to help Wyatt get the win. It was overall an entertaining match.

The semi-main event spot was Samoa Joe vs. Seth Rollins.

This match was okay, but it could have been better.

It seems as if WWE is continuing this feud as Rollins won with a fluke victory pin. Both men are talented so I'm hoping their rematch will be longer and better than this match.

This event also saw two new champions crowned. Surprisingly, Chris Jericho defeated Kevin Owens to win the United States title.

I assumed Jericho was leaving WWE soon and I predicted he would lose.

As a result of his win, Jericho has now been drafted over to Smackdown Live. This is sad news for Raw as Jericho is still one of the best wrestlers in WWE today.

The other new champion crowned was Alexa Bliss. She beat Bayley to become the new Raw Women's Champion.

The match itself was okay, but the finished felt sudden and came out of nowhere.

Bayley hit her head on the ring post and Alexa Bliss won with a DDT. Bliss is the first woman ever to win both the Raw and Smackdown championships.

Another newsworthy match was The Hardy Boyz vs. Cesaro and Sheamus. Sheamus kicked Jeff Hardy so hard his tooth came out.

In the end though, The Hardy Boyz are still the Tag Team Champions. The post-match celebration was where the fun really began. Cesaro and Sheamus attacked The Hardy Boyz in anger and both men are now officially heels.

The only underwhelming match on the main card was Austin Aries vs. Neville for the Cruiserweight Title.

The match itself was going good, but the finish was kind of dumb. Neville got himself disqualified by grabbing onto the referee too many times. Austin Aries wins the match, but Neville still keeps the belt.

There's not much else to say about the pre-show. Finn Balor just beat up The Miz in a talking segment while Enzo and Cass beat The Club in an average match.

Anyway, the actual PPV exceeded my expectations as I was entertained throughout it. Hopefully Smackdown Live is able to keep up with their next PPV called Backlash happening later this month.
